Volunteering with us / What we need

Community Kitchen

Bakers/cake-makers to join others for the monthly Sunday Afternoon Teas, urgently sought.

-We know it’s not simple, but for everyone’s safety and for us to stay out of trouble with Environmental Health, it’s necessary for baking and preparation to take place on the premises.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – occasional prepping & serving support in the community kitchen [Food Hygiene Level 2 training will be provided] There is a trusted group of volunteers already supporting Elaine, but occasionally they also need a break!

Friday – Help to set up the weekly  Friday Coffee Morning and/or support the Light Lunch preparation, service and/or clear up on the same day.

Befrienders: If you are a “people-person” you’ll be interested in meeting others and chatting to people who come to activities which take place at the Centre. The people who visit us are interesting, and they are interested in us! We love to get to know folk, but as time moves on, we’re getting busier with all of things necessary to run a charity, and our capacity to stop and sit has been curtailed. Can you give some of your precious time to others ?

Odd jobs: There’s always something to be done.  Will you give occasional help ? Work on the back stairs starts on Wednesday 19th. Thank you to Rick and Michael, and all others for their offers of help.

Why volunteer with the Abergavenny Community Trust?

If you share our love of people and, like us, you care about an ageing future, then we think that you will understand our own motivations, and may want to work alongside us for a better future.  That is our hope.

Who gets paid?

The charity is a living wage / pay parity employer, employing local people.  The charity employs a:

  • caretaker*
  • cook with responsibilities
  • kitchen assistant
  • manager (12 hrs)

The charity pays professional fees to local solicitors and accountants, and outsources its Payroll and Bookkeeping.

*Our caretaker is currently off work, and our manager really does need some occasional help during the week in order to meet demand. The main duty is moving tables / chairs & occasional clearing/cleaning of rooms. Will you help by sharing the load?

Thank You.
